TFT Glass-Based Micro LED Display

Micro LED is the display technology every other technology is measured against: self-emissive like OLED, bright and long-lived like LED, with no backlight, no bezel and no burn-in. What has held it back commercially is manufacturing — specifically, how you place millions of microscopic LED dice onto a substrate accurately and cheaply enough to sell. The answer that is now in volume production is the TFT glass backplane.

What TFT Glass-Based Micro LED Actually Is

Conventional fine-pitch LED displays are built on FR4 printed circuit board. Each cabinet is a PCB with LED packages soldered to it, and cabinets are bolted together into a wall. TFT glass-based Micro LED replaces that PCB with a thin-film-transistor glass backplane — the same semiconductor-grade substrate used to manufacture high-end LCD panels — and bonds microscopic LED dice directly onto it using mass transfer.

Why the 20-Micron Seam Matters

A human eye at one metre resolves roughly 0.3mm. A conventional LED wall with a 0.2mm module gap is therefore right at the edge of visibility — and once you notice the grid, you cannot unsee it. At 20 microns, the gap is fifteen times below the resolution limit. The wall stops looking like tiled panels and starts looking like a single sheet of light. In a boardroom, a broadcast studio or a luxury retail environment, that is the entire point.

Non-transparent Micro LED

The premium replacement for LCD video walls and conventional fine-pitch LED. Pitches from P0.4 to P1.5, under 10mm deep, true black, over 110% DCI-P3 colour gamut. For executive briefing centres, broadcast and virtual production, control rooms, luxury retail feature walls and high-end residential cinema.

Transparent Micro LED

The highest-specification see-through display available. Pitches from P1.5, 50–75% transparency, from 6mm panel thickness, with no visible strip structure when the display is off. For flagship retail interiors, museum display cases, premium automotive showrooms and architectural glass features.

Micro LED vs OLED vs LCD vs Fine-Pitch LED

  • vs OLED: Micro LED is inorganic, so there is no burn-in and no organic degradation. It is also far brighter — hundreds of nits for large OLED against 1,000+ nits sustained for Micro LED — and it scales to any wall size without a panel-size ceiling.
  • vs LCD video wall: No bezel at all. An LCD wall always shows a black grid between tiles, however thin the bezel gets. Micro LED has no grid, plus true black instead of backlight bleed.
  • vs conventional fine-pitch LED: No visible module seams, half the depth, better flatness, deeper black, and more stable colour over a long operating day. The trade-off is cost per square metre.
  • vs projection: Works in full ambient light, no shadowing, no lamp replacement, no throw distance to design around.

Where Micro LED Is Worth the Money — and Where It Is Not

We will say this plainly because it saves everyone time. Micro LED is worth specifying when the audience gets closer than about three metres, when the surface must read as seamless, or when the installation is a brand statement where the display itself is part of the impression. It is not worth the money for a facade viewed from thirty metres, a festival IMAG wall, or a warehouse information screen — in those cases a conventional LED product at a coarser pitch delivers an identical viewer experience for a fraction of the cost, and we will recommend that instead.
