Stage LED Display Solutions

Stage and event LED is a different engineering problem from fixed installation. The wall goes up in hours, comes down in hours, travels in a truck, gets rained on, hangs from a truss with real people underneath it, and has to look perfect on a broadcast camera. This page covers rental LED cabinet selection, rigging and load, camera compatibility, and the specification details that separate a screen that survives a touring season from one that does not.

What Makes a Cabinet “Rental Grade”

  • Fast locking. Quarter-turn curved locks let two crew join and align a cabinet in seconds. On a 60-cabinet wall this is the difference between a two-hour and a six-hour build.
  • Die-cast aluminium, not steel. Typical rental cabinet weight is 6–8 kg for a 500×500mm panel. Weight drives truck space, rigging load and crew fatigue.
  • Front and rear service. On a hung wall you cannot always reach the back. Front-serviceable modules let a tech swap a failed module from a ladder in under a minute.
  • Curve capability. Adjustable locks allowing ±10° per cabinet let you build concave and convex sets from the same stock.
  • Flight case integration. Cabinets that load six or eight to a case with integrated cabling save more setup time than any other single factor.

Camera Compatibility: The Specification People Skip

If the show is being filmed or streamed, three numbers matter more than pixel pitch:

  • Refresh rate ≥ 3,840 Hz. Below this you get rolling scan bands on camera. For high-speed or slow-motion capture, specify 7,680 Hz.
  • Grey scale at low brightness. Cameras usually see the wall at 15–30% brightness, not 100%. A cheap panel loses colour depth and starts banding when dimmed. Ask for 16-bit processing and low-brightness high-grey-scale capability.
  • Colour temperature lock. The wall must be calibrated to match the lighting rig, typically 6,500K. Uncalibrated walls read blue on camera and are extremely difficult to fix in the grade.

Rigging, Load and Safety

A hung LED wall is a suspended load over an audience, and the paperwork matters as much as the hardware. We supply per-cabinet weight, hanging bar load ratings, maximum cabinets per vertical column, and certified test documentation for your rigger and local authority. As a planning figure, a 500×500mm rental cabinet weighs 6–8 kg, so a 10m × 5m wall is roughly 200 cabinets and 1,400 kg before rigging hardware. Always confirm the maximum hang height per column with us before designing the rig — it varies by cabinet model.

Outdoor Events and Weather

For festival and outdoor stage use, specify IP65 front and rear and 5,000–6,500 nits. Outdoor cabinets need weatherproof power and data connectors, and the wall needs a wind load assessment for the ground-support or hung structure. A common and expensive mistake is buying IP65-front / IP54-rear cabinets for outdoor touring: the first wet load-out kills the power supplies.

Processing and Redundancy

Live events do not get a second take. Standard practice on any show that matters is dual processors with automatic failover, loop-through data so a single failed receiving card does not black out an entire column, and redundant power feeds. We configure and document the redundancy scheme with the wall rather than leaving it to the on-site crew to invent.

Spares Policy

Budget 3–5% spare modules, plus spare receiving cards, power supplies and data cables, travelling with the wall. On a touring rig this is not optional — module failures happen, and the show has to go on the same night. All our rental packages include a spares kit sized to the wall.
